How to Increase Followers on Pinterest – 5 Steps That Helped Me Increase Mine!

In my article “What is Pinterest Used For?”, I explained why online businesses such as e-commerce, and content marketing can benefit from using Pinterest to advertise their products and/or services to their target audience.

As far as I know, there are two ways to do this. The first way is to take advantage of Pinterest’s search engine nature while the other method is to use Pinterest as social media.

Using Pinterest as Search Engine

The first method is fairly straight forward to do.

All you need to do is to create Pinterest boards that are related to your business or to your blog’s niche by creating a board and making sure that you use the right “keywords” on the title of your boards.

In addition to inserting the right keywords on your board titles, you also need to use keywords on your board description to make it easier for Pinterest algorithm to determine the identity of your board.

If you do this, then the right and interested people will find your account when they do their search on topics, products, and services in the niche you are in.

For example, my online business focuses on helping people with their personal finance and coaching them on how to successfully do online business so my Pinterest Business account have boards with titles such as “Selling on eBay”, “Pinterest Tips for Business”, “Budgeting Tips”, “Side Hustles” and many more!

Notice that these are the phrases a person would most likely type if they are looking for ideas or blogs about personal finances and online business!

Using Pinterest as a Social Media

The beauty of Pinterest being a social media is it will automatically show your newly posted pins or re-pins to your follower’s homepage. This is why it is important for you, as a Pinterest Business account user, to consistently post your own pin so your followers can see it, hopefully, save it and in the best case scenario visit your website by clicking the link that you included in your pin.

Hopefully, it should be obvious to you that the more follower you have, the more people can see your pins, the greater the traffic you will get to your website, therefore, the higher your chance of completing a transaction.

In this article, I will teach you different ways that I do increase my followers and hopefully, you will be able to apply it in your own online business.

How to Increase Followers on Pinterest

Method 1: Follow as Many People as You Can

Believe it or not, this is the best way to gain followers. Just follow as many people as you can and some of them will follow back. This is okay with Pinterest because unlike Instagram or any other social media, the follower/following ratio in Pinterest is much less of a concern.

I know, I know. This sounds like an irresponsible way to increase your followers, but at the end of the day, it works! Although to be honest, I also feel it’s kinda dumb to do it this way, so I kinda modified this strategy.

What I would usually do is to check who the Pinterest owner of the pin that re-pinned so I can follow them. I figure that if they have posted a pin that is relevant to my niche then I assume that their business niche is similar to mine. That means when I post a pin, it would be relevant to them so they will repin it to their boards then their followers will see it and repin it and so and so forth.

Now, what usually happens after I following them is Pinterest will suggest to me other users that are similar to the one that I just followed. What I would do next is to add all those suggested users. This way, I would be adding users that are within my niche or close to my niche!

After following them, Pinterest will suggest to me other users that are similar to the one that I just followed. What I would do next is to add all those suggested users. This way, I would be adding users that are within my niche or close to my niche!

Of course, not all Pinterest suggested users are actually similar to the one that I followed/ their niche is different from mine but at this point… who cares! 😀

Method 2: Post Actively and Consistently

Make it a habit to post your own pin or at least re-pin consistently, doing so will make your account more visible.

Why?

Like what I have said, Pinterest is part of social media. That means a percentage of your followers will see your post when you pin something (either by posting your own pin or repining a pin).

Method 3: Schedule Your Post at the Right Time

Yes, I advise that you should be aggressive in posting or repining pins, but don’t do it one-time big time!

Personally, I prefer posting/repining 3 to 5 pins every 3 to 4 hours. This way, different sets of people will see my post/checking out my account, therefore, I am increasing my chance to get repined or be followed by many people.

Method 4: Join or Create Group Boards

Pinterest allows you to collaborate with other Pinterest users.

To do this, all you need is to create a Pinterest board then there is an option where it says, “Add Collaborators”.

When you press this button, it will show you your followers list. You can click people’s name to invite them to join your board. When they accept the invitation, they will then be able to post or repost pins on your board.

So how would you gain followers from this method?

Well, your board will be visible to your collaborator’s follower homepage. In other words, when you post pins on that board, not only your followers can see it but the followers of your collaborator will also see. When they start seeing it, there is a good chance that they will save the pin or follow the board or follow your account.

Method 5: Use the Right Keywords on your Pins and on your Boards

Yes, I know this is part of method 1, but if you are searchable, then you have a higher chance to get followed, so do it for the sake of being searchable and for gaining followers.
