One more week before Christmas! Have you finished shopping for everyone? Skip the hassle of going to a mall and just buy those last minutes gift online. Speaking of shopping online, today I’m going to show you different sites that will help you stretch your dwindling Christmas budget. These sites give you rebates whenever you complete a transaction. Swagbucks is even more fun since you can make extra cash doing what you are already doing on the net.

Ebates

What is it?

Launched on 1999 by two deputy district attorneys who specialized in online fraud and identity, eBates has become one of the best online rebate site to date. Today, eBates has able to help its 4 million members save over $20 million in cash back.

eBates’s business model is “affiliate marketing“, but they do it with a twist. First, they curate every online store imaginable into their website so it is easier for their members to shop from one store to another. Second, they get a commission every time its members purchase from an online store through their website. Third, they share their profit with their customers through a form of rebates.

How to use it?

Using eBates is pretty easy. All you need to do is sign up, then look for your favorite store. Finally, buy the items you need as you normally would.

If the transaction is successful, then eBates will give you your rebate within 48 hours. You can track how much rebate you have earned on your account.

There are three ways to get your rebate. You can ask eBates to pay you via cheque, PayPal, or you can send your rebate to your favorite charity, organization, or relative.

eBates will pay you once every three months: Feb15, May 15, Aug 15, and Nov. 15. However, if your total rebate is less than $5.01, then the amount you accumulated will be carried forward to your next paycheque.

Why use it?

A quick answer is to save money, for convenience and to potentially earn more money.

The most obvious reason why you may want to use eBates is that you can save up 2% to 5%. However, eBates also gives special promotion where a member can save up to 12% or even get $20.

Another reason why to use eBates is it is easier for a member shop online because he/she does not have to Google every store that he/she wants to visit. It is all in the eBates website and he/she can easily know how much he/she can save.

Last reason is eBates offers a good referral program. If a member is able to refer eBates to 2 of his/her friends, then the member gets $35 referral bonus.

Swagbucks

What is it?

Swagbucks gives you a rebate every time you purchase from participating online stores. However, instead of rewarding members with money, they give them… well “swagbucks”. They also give swagbucks for participating in different activities found on their site. Members can then exchange the swagbucks for gift cards from various retailers, cash it out via Paypal or donate it to their favorite charity.

How to use it?

There are different ways to use Swagbucks. First, members can get rebates when shopping online. All they need to do is to log in to their account, find their favorite online store the list, then shop online like the would normally do. When a transaction has been completed, a rebate will automatically be added to a member’s account.

The second thing that a member does at Swagbucks is to earn points by participating in Swagbucks’ activities. To do this, members need to log in to their account then browse the site to find the activity they want to do. Activities include answering a survey, watching a video, downloading apps, etc.

Why use it?

Members can use swagbucks to enter a Swagstakes, exchange it for a gift card to their favorite retailers, donate it, or convert it into monetary value to be deposited via Paypal.

What separates Swagbucks from other online rebate websites is it allows its members to collect swagbucks not only from rebates of their purchases but also through watching videos, trying out apps, answering surveys and more!

Swagbucks is excellent for those who have lots of free time, a frequent online shopper, don’t mind watching on their phone and looking for ways to earn extra cash.

Members collect and save swagbucks which they can use later on to exchange with a gift card from their favorite retailers. They can also use it to enter Swagstakes which gives them a chance to earn prices. Other ways to redeem their points is through Paypal or they can also donate it to their favorite organization or charity.

JoinHoney

What is it?

Joinhoney is the most unique of the three. It is not a website and it doesn’t specialize in rebates.

Joinhoney is a browser extension that finds and applies coupons at checkout to help its members save. In addition to, it automatically compares prices on Amazon and it informs its members the lowest price for an item. It also features “droplist” option where members can wishlist an item they wanted to buy. When Joinhoney finds a good deal on that item, it will inform members about the deal. Finally, if they make a commision from a transaction, they split the profit and gives back some back to its members.

How to use it?

Using Joinhoney is easy. All you need to do is sign up and create an account. Next is for you to download an extension from your favorite browser, and that’s it. It will automatically finds coupons and it will inform you about it at checkout.

Why use it?

You can potentially save twice as much since you can save from coupons plus the rebates. In addition to, you do not need to sign it to a site before you can receive rebates so by far this is the easiest and most straightforward method to save money when shopping online.

    Hi John,

What an absolutely amazing post you have created here.

I have not even heard of the 3 sites that you discuss, but I am certainly going to take a look at them.

I haven’t even started Christmas shopping yet (I know…!) but these look like an excellent place to start.

Are all 3 international or US based only?

I live in Asia so it would be great to know if we can use them globally.

Thanks a lot for sparking my interest in this kind of online shopping.

    Excellent job!

    Tim

    Hello,

Thanks for this post.  I actually use Joinhoney today.  It’s saved me a bit of money.

I’ve heard of Swagbucks and I’ve seen the Ebates commercials.  Here’s my question.  Is there a spreadsheet or matrix that lists what merchants participate in each program, kind of like a master list?

I’ll have to check them both out and see which one(s) I’ll use.

    Thanks again,

         Scott

      Hi Scott,

Im going, to be honest with you and let you know that I have no idea if there is a spreadsheet or matrix that lists all the participating merchant for each platform, but I believe that you do not need that. eBates and Swagbucks have a search button. Simply type your favorite retail store and hit search to see if they provide the service on that particular store.

    Dear John,

Thanks a lot for the informative and much needed post on the right time.

As we all buy gifts on this Christmas season to share our love, your post gave me great insights.

I am keen and interested with Swagbucks and I do have an account and some balance with them but I am not using it. Your post came as an eye opener. We can cash it out via paypal with them is a great news. With Ebates you mentioned they only pay every three months which I don’t like.

As I mentioned although I have an account with Swagbucks I am unaware of the benefits via your post I learned the different ways to utilize the platform.

Thanks a lot for saving people money via your post.

    Wishing you much Success!

    Paul

I don’t really know about any of these and upon reading them I know why my wife swears by eBates.

I’m not interested in getting swagbucks, just good deals.

I’m sure Joinhoney is pretty good although I’ve never heard of it, just read what you said so I will bring it to my wife’s attention.

      Hi,

Thanks for reading it. In terms of online rebates, eBates is the best.

I understand your take on Swagbucks. I think Swagbucks is good for those who are willing to spend extra time on the internet to earn a bit of cash, but in terms of rebates, they do give less than eBates.

Please do let your wife know about Joinhoney, I thing she will like it.

      Regards,
      John Greg

You did really add value to my life today through your article.

I’ve actually heard of two of the sites you mentioned except joinhoney. Although I never bothered to find out how they operate and what I stood to gain from using them. Now I’m more informed.

Are these sites open to international buyers and do they ship to other countries? I’ll appreciate your reply.

    Thanks for sharing this.

      Hi,

I am glad I am able to help. The sites that I provided is open to different countries, but as for the shipping, it depends on the individual online stores. Some of them do ship internationally, while others only ship withing the country.

      Regards,

      John Greg
